One of Mumbai's most interesting areas, Kotachiwadi is a little enclave of Portuguese style villas in the middle of the bustle of Bombay city. Preserved by residents fiercely proud of their heritage, with a little help from heritage conservation groups, it is a fascinating taste of what life might have been like when Mumbai was a set of villages and a fort. This is one of the few wadis off Girgaum Road that has been able to maintain its original flavour without shops or new constructions spoiling the symmetry. Visit the famous Gomantak restaurant Anantashram, while you're there. Kotachiwadi hosts a cultural festival in summer every year.

Location: Girgaum Road
